A Focus on the "Soncreek Players" . . .

Our narrator tells about Dusty Dan the mountain man visiting Sam Whittlby's store much to
the olfactory disgust of Jessie Findgold...

...and because of his smell clerk Lucy Trippinfall offers him some "sweet-smelling rose water."
After he leaves and Lucy goes on an errand, Sam and Jessie continue their checker rivalry.

When Lucy fails to come back, Sam goes looking and tells Jessie to pray-which she's not
used to doing but does it anyway-until interrupted by little Johnny and Jasper Burcham (The
Gumball Gang) trying once again to complete a robbery (which never does work out for them).

Sam can't find Lucy and, aided by Jessie, starts to write a missing person story for the Soncreek
Gazette for help finding "a new friend," until they are interrupted by Lucy herself who explains
what happened and Jessie is convinced God heard her prayers and brought Lucy home....
